Our summer season continued with Wednesday social games in January, February and March. In both the January and February games, two of our three rinks had victories. In the March game, all three of our rinks recorded wins. We were pleased to welcome Daniel Eckhaus (Class of 1994) as a new member of our team for the March game.
The Annual APS Tournament took place at the Glen Waverley Bowls Club on Sunday 29 March. Caulfield was the host school this year and we were pleased that CGA Senior Vice-President Fleur Goulding was able to join us for lunch. Fleur provided a brief welcome to all competitors and thanked the volunteers from Glen Waverley for their help in organising the tournament and serving lunch. Fleur also assisted in drawing the raffle, proceeds from which go to the Royal Children’s Hospital Appeal. CGA President Grant Poulter was an apology for the event due to another commitment.
The APS tournament, conducted in sunny conditions, was enjoyed by all involved and, as usual, the games were played in good spirit. Although the Caulfield Grammar team was unable to repeat our 2025 victory, all our players performed well on the day. We finished in third position, behind the winners St Kevin’s Old Collegians and second-placed Old Carey Grammarians. The members of our team this year were: Bev Allen, Tony Bagnall, Phil Crabtree, Graham Craven, Russell Dowling, Annette Kendall, Brendan King, Graeme Lamb, Ray Lambart, Jennie Russell, Scott Wellington and Ian Wilkinson. We were pleased to welcome Russell and Ray as first-time members of the team, although Ray had already played in a number of our social games during the season. The trophy for the best performed Caulfield rink was won by Scott Wellington (skip), Brendan King and Ian Wilkinson.
I will be in contact with all our current bowlers when the fixture for the 2026/27 season becomes available.
We are always looking for new bowlers. Team members are not restricted to past students of the School. They can also include: 1) the parents or grandparents of past or present students; and 2) past or present staff members.
Old Shelfordians, or past Shelford parents, grandparents or staff members, are most welcome to join us. Players of any standard can take part in our social games. Please contact Ian Wilkinson at the CGA (ianwilkinson@caulfieldgs.vic.edu.au) if you are interested in participating in any of our social games or would like to be considered for selection in the CGA team for the 2027 APS Tournament. Alternatively, telephone the CGA Office on 9524 6229 to register your interest. If you have a family member who plays bowls, please pass this information on to them.
I would like to thank all members of the team for their support this season.
Phil Crabtree (Team Manager)
