Lawn Bowls 2026/27 Season

Our 2026/27 season commenced in early September. We have been enjoying the regular Wednesday social games organised by the MCC Bowls Club at their greens in Hawthorn. These games involve bowlers from Caulfield, Old Scotch, Old Wesley and MCC. At the time of writing, we had completed four games with two more to take place before Christmas. In the games played on 2 September and 7 October, three out of our four rinks recorded victories, while on 30 September all three of our rinks had strong wins. One of our three rinks had a win in the game on 14 October.

We have been pleased to welcome some new bowlers to our ranks this year. These include Stuart Paxton, who attended Malvern Grammar School in the late 1950s, and Anne and IanBurns, who have two sons who attended Caulfield Campus, graduating in the 1990s. We have also been pleased to welcome back to the team past student, past staff member and past CGA Executive Director Daryl Moran, who was unable to bowl last season, and past CGA Executive Director Peter Garamszegi, who has not bowled with us for a few years.

We will play further Wednesday social games during the first three months of next year and look forward to the Annual APS Past Students Bowls Tournament to be held at the Glen Waverley Bowls Club on Sunday 21 March 2027.

We are always looking for new bowlers. Team members are not restricted to past students of the School. They can also include: 1) the parents or grandparents of past or present students; and 2) past or present staff members. Old Shelfordians, or past Shelford parents, grandparents or staff members, are most welcome to join us. Players of any standard can take part in our social games. Please contact Ian Wilkinson at the CGA (ianwilkinson@caulfieldgs.vic.edu.au) if you are interested in participating in any of our social games or would like to be considered for selection in the CGA team for the 2027 APS Tournament. Alternatively, contact the CGA Office to register your interest. If you have a family member who plays bowls please pass this information on to them.

I would like to thank all members of the team for their support so far this season.

Phil Crabtree (Team Manager)
