Our 2023/24 season was filled with disappointment and both of our sides returned for the 2024/25 with fire in the belly and ready to redeem themselves after relegation to division 3 and 4.
Kavish Vora retained the captaincy of our division 3 side, and he led really well with bat and ball all season. The team finished on top of the ladder and met Old Haileybury in the semi-final. Unfortunately, it was not our day. Old Haileybury made 161 and bowled us out for only 30 in the run chase. Despite this, the team put in a wonderful effort all season and really turned things around after a disappointing 23/24 season. This has also led to the promotion of the side into Division 2 for the upcoming season.
Our division 4 side was taken over by Dhaval Shah once again who showed great leadership throughout the season. He led his side to the top of the ladder and they won their first final and earned a spot in the grand final against Old Scotch. Once again, it wasn’t our day with Old Scotch making 223 in the first innings and bowling us out for 62 in the run chase. Dhaval and the team were the best side throughout the season and everyone contributed wonderfully to the team and really redeemed themselves after also having a disappointing 23/24 season.
We had several individuals who had fantastic seasons which were rewarded by club and competition awards. Our Club batting awards went to Vishal Brahmbhatt for Division 3 and Bijjal Nagesh for Division 3 while our club bowling awards went to Vishal again for Division 3 and Dhaval Shah for Division 4. The MCC named Dhaval Shah as the champion player in Division 4 and a member of team of the year. Vishal Brahmbhatt, Shail Gopani, BijjalNagesh, Mehulkumar Patel and Digant Patel were all named as members of the team of the year for their respective divisions. Congratulations to all.
Our 25/26 season commenced on October 18th with our Division 4 side emphatically beating MCC 3 by 9 wickets led by a huge 100* off 54 balls from Vishal Brahmbhatt. Unfortunately, our Division 2 side couldn’t follow suit despite a massive 96 from 37 balls from Luke Ashen, we lost to Melbourne High by 8 wickets. We look forward to the rest of the season and hope we can compete again in the finals and bring home some silverware!
I would like to thank our committee for all their hard work, without the dedication of you all, we wouldn’t be able to play each week. I’d also like to thank our major sponsor SCM Finance Group and the Caulfield Grammarians’ Association for their continued support.
We are always looking for further involvement from Grammarians so if you are interested in playing or being involved in any way, please contact Cameron Scholten at cscholten88@gmail.com or 0412 283 630.
