APS Past Students Lawn Bowls Tournament

Our 2022/23 season concluded with the annual APS Past Students Bowls Tournament at the Glen Waverley Bowls Club on Sunday 2 April. Prior to this, we had enjoyed regular competitive matches against teams from Old Scotch, Old Wesley, Old Melburnians and MCC from October through to March.  With the addition of a couple of extra games this season we played a total of eight matches leading up to the APS Tournament.

Our bowlers performed creditably at the APS tournament, winning two games in each of the three rounds to finish in third place with six wins and six losses from 12 games.  The winners were old Carey Grammarians with 10 wins, while Old Haileyburians were second with nine wins.  The trophies for the best Caulfield rink were awarded to Tony Bagnall (lead), Phil Crabtree (second) and Adrian Lim (skip).  They won all three of their games and finished 19 shots up.

I would like to thank all bowlers for their cooperation during the season and Tony Bagnall, in particular, for his assistance with the selection and organisation of teams.

We are always looking for new bowlers to join us.  Past students, past staff members and past parents or grandparents are all eligible to play for us.  Please contact the CGA Office (cga@caulfieldgs.vic.edu.au) if you are interested in participating.  Letters will be sent to all current bowlers in August advising fixtured games for the coming season.

Phil Crabtree

Editor’s Note : The CGA would like to thank Phil Crabtree for his continuing work as volunteer organiser of the CGA Lawn Bowls Team.  Phil took over this responsibility some years ago and always ensures that the team is run efficiently.  He will be easing back his administrative involvement over the next couple of years with team member Daryl Moran taking over as organiser.
