The President, Council, Principal, staff, students and past students of Caulfield Grammar School are deeply saddened by the death of Don Wirth, past student (1944 to 1946) and member of staff (1947 to 1977), and extend their deepest condolences to Don’s children, Peter and Deborah and grandchildren Lara, Alexander and Nicola.
Under his leadership as Master of the Middle School, Don developed and provided a middle school programme of experiential learning and excursions. He was also a cricket coach and successfully took the First XI to four successive Associated Grammar School cricket premierships.
From 1997 Don dedicated 15 years as a volunteer, assisting with the school’s pictorial archives and its alumni reunion programme. In 2003 Don was inducted as a Fellow of the Caulfield Grammarians’ Association in recognition of his significant contribution to the School and its alumni.
Don will be remembered as a much respected and admired teacher who influenced the lives of very many Grammarians. He gave extraordinary service to his school and he will be forever remembered and greatly missed.
