CGFC President Update December 2023

Preparations for season 2024 have started in earnest for both the Men’s and Women’s programs.

The Club is excited to welcome Danielle Distefano as the women’s senior coach, Lachlan Worthy as the women’s reserves coach and James Rankin as assistant coach. Dani has already been very busy in recruiting new players to the Club and getting to know the current group and Lachie and James have already shown they are heavily invested.

The Men’s program has at its helm once again, Guy McKenna as senior coach, Jono Nash and Lachie Rayner as senior assistants and also Luke Thwaites until he heads North mid-season.

The Club also warmly welcomes Jason Bek as reserves coach. Jason has many years of coaching experience, the most recent being at Uni Blues and then Old Haileybury in the VAFA.

Chris Mathieson returns as Under 19 coach again ably assisted by Steve Kendall, both hoping to go one better next year after a sensational year where the team narrowly lost the Preliminary final in Premier Division.

In the off season our Head of Football for both women and men Aiden Clarke has been working tirelessly to ensure we retain the 2023 playing group. Due to his and other efforts we can look to 2024 with much optimism.

I have coined 2024 the Year of the Volunteer as giving back to the Community is vitality important and even more so in this post Covid era.

The work of the Club is vast and multi-faceted and calls for unique skills to be deployed, from social connectivity, marketing, finance, corporate partnerships, connecting with the School, the CGA and the Glen Eira Council, not to mention the day-to-day affairs of putting approximately 120 young people on the park each week to play for the CGFC.

The phrase many hands make light work is a simple but sometimes forgotten philosophy.

If you wish to be part of the CGFC in the Year of the Volunteer, please reach out to me. Remember no task is too small.

Finally, your hard-working Committee for 2024 in addition to myself are Kate Wicks (Secretary), Keegan Steward (Treasurer), Will Bowes (Immediate Past President), Glen Harrison (Vice President), Aiden Clarke, Rachel Stevens, Claire Shinkfield, Bill Casey, Steven Hood, Ben Gross, Scott Williams and Luke Matias.

Have a restful Holiday period and I look forward to seeing you in 2024 at the football.

Richard Harris (President CGFC)
