From the Archive: School House Swimming team 1961
Glued into a foolscap House register is this small photograph. Showing the boarders swimming team – a few years before it was re-named Morcom House. Can you name any of the students? Please email archives@caulfieldgs.vic.edu.au
The 1931 Jubilee Fair and Carnivals.
It is easy to forget in the busy life of our school the significant support over many decades from the school community of parents, staff, former students, and supportive friends. I was reminded of this recently when sorting some boxes of School Carnival ‘papers, photos, committee minutes and brochures, dating from the 1970s to 2000s.
The branches of Parents and Friends’ Association have long fulfilled an important support and fundraising role. Following the 1931 Jubilee Fair, a branch of Parents and Friends was established. A Malvern branch was established in 1976, building on the hard-working legacy of the Malvern Memorial Grammar Parents’ Association. The Wheelers Hill branch commenced in 1979 prior to the opening of the campus and each campus has also enjoyed the support of a Mothers’ Auxiliary.
Do you remember the Carnivals? From 1985 they were known as the ‘Caulfield Family Fair’, featuring the Caulfield Gift (120metre sprint) and wood-chopping event. Welcoming special guests such cycling champion, Hurbert Opperman cycling champion (1933), Lee Conway country singer (1975), Glenn Ridge and Jo Bailey (Sale of the Century 1991), and Humphrey B Bear (1995).
