On Tuesday the 24th of June, the Caulfield Grammar School Foundation and the 1881 Bequest Society welcomed some of our alumni back to campus for a special Morning Tea and Campus Tour, with a spotlight on the peer year of 1956.
The event began with a warm welcome from the Director of Philanthropy Andrew Cole and Jim Hayman Emeritus Past President School Council. Our alumni were taken on a tour where they noted the impressive new facilities — and smiled at the landmarks that remain unchanged. They explored updated classrooms, modernised science labs and the newly built five storey Senior School building.
The tour also included stops at the chapel, sports field, boarding house and the Aquatic centre sparking nostalgia and countless shares stories. Many were struck by the balance between innovation and tradition.
While the school has embraced new technologies and teaching methods, it continues to uphold the values and spirit that shaped generations of young students.
A highlight of the morning was a fascinating “Archivist Talk” in the heritage room. Ms. Judith Gibson, our school archivist, shared treasures from the archives, including blazers, photos, and the original 1956 yearbook. Alumni reminisced as they saw familiar faces in print and read their own youthful messages to the future.
Over morning tea alumni and current staff mingled, sharing stories across generations. The event reminded us that while our campus has changed over the years, the spirit of community endures. These cross-generational conversations beautifully illustrated the enduring legacy of our school community.
We thank all who attended and look forward to welcoming more alumni back soon.
