1881 Bequest Society – Shelford Campus & St Mary’s Church Visit

A visit to the Shelford Campus, hosted by the 1881 Bequest Society, recently offered a warm and engaging glimpse into both its rich heritage and vibrant community spirit.

The tour, thoughtfully led by Head of Campus Sarah Salter, guided guests through the grounds and into the historic St Mary’s Church. With its timeless bluestone architecture and serene atmosphere, the church provided a meaningful focal point for the visit. Lead Pastor Mark Juers shared a comprehensive history of the building, highlighting its long-standing connections to both Shelford and Caulfield Grammar School.

Looking toward the future, Sarah Salter discussed the exciting plans for the campus. As a key figure in shaping this next significant chapter of the school’s history, Sarah emphasized that the development has been a community-focused process, incorporating the essential views of staff, students, and families.

Following the tour, the group—including President of Alumnae Karen Boyd Jones and members of the Shelford and Caulfield communities—gathered for a convivial lunch to share stories across generations. Shelfordian Pam Dalrymple noted, “It is always a treat to return to my old school and reminisce. The new-look classroom in the Criswick was something to behold… so very different to 67 years ago when I was in Year 7.”

Under Sarah Salter’s leadership, the day highlighted not only the campus’s traditions but also a shared commitment to fostering a sense of belonging.
