The Caulfield Grammar Production Company successfully staged a bold and flamboyant rendition of Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest, a farcical play by Oscar Wilde about two bachelors, Jack Worthing and Algernon Moncrieff, who create alter egos named Ernest to escape what they believe are their mundane lives. Both men use this deception to woo women who are fixated on the name “Ernest”.
Celebrated for its wit and repartee, parodying and gently satirising late Victorian manners, this version of the play deems to poke fun at quintessential Britishness and the pomposity of the upper class.
With a total of 406 tickets sold, the production enjoyed strong community engagement and enthusiastic audience response, reflecting both the timeless appeal of Wilde’s comedy and the continued excellence of the Caulfield Grammar Production Company.
