Caulfield Grammarians’ Lawn Bowls Club won 2025 APS Tournament

The Annual APS Tournament was held at the Glen Waverley Bowls Club on Sunday 23 March. This year, the CGA team won the tournament for the first time since 2017. In an extremely close competition, Caulfield finished by one point ahead St Kevin’s. All team members played well on the day and contributed to what was a great victory. The members of the team were: Bev Allen, Tony Bagnall, Phil Crabtree, Brendan King, Graham Craven, Graeme Lamb, Gary Lasky, Daryl Moran, Cheryl Muttock, Jennie Russell, Chris Warne, Scott Wellington and Ian Wilkinson. The team of Chris Warne (skip), Graham Craven (second) and Ian Wilkinson (lead) won the trophies for the best performed CGA rink. In 2026 Caulfield will be the host school, responsible for organising this event in conjunction with representatives from the Glen Waverley Bowls Club.

During the season, the team participated in a number of enjoyable social games against teams from other APS alumni associations and the Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC). These are organised by the MCC and are played on Wednesdays on the club’s top-quality grass greens in Hawthorn (either Swinburne Avenue or Glen Street).

We are always looking for new bowlers to join us and hope to have some new recruits for the 2025/26 season, which runs from September to March.

Team members are not restricted to past students of the School. They can also include: 1) the parents or grandparents of past or present students; and 2) past or present staff members. Old Shelfordians, or past Shelford parents, grandparents or staff members, are most welcome to join us. Players of any standard can take part in our social games.

Please contact Ian Wilkinson at the CGA (ianwilkinson@caulfieldgs.vic.edu.au) if you are interested in participating in any of our social games next season or would like to be considered for selection in the CGA team that will take part in the 2026 APS Tournament. Alternatively, telephone the CGA Office on 9524 6229 to register your interest. If you have a family member who may be interested please pass this information on to them.

I extend my thanks to all members of the team for their support during the 2024/25 season.

Phil Crabtree
