Job Description

This is a Full-Time, 4-year, fixed term Position of Responsibility commencing 1 January 2026 at our Caulfield Campus.

The Role

The Campus Head of Faculty – Music plays a central role in shaping the musical and academic experience of students from Years 7–12. This role leads both the co-curricular and curriculum-based music programs at the campus, ensuring excellence in classroom teaching, ensemble direction, and performance opportunities.

Working in close collaboration with the Director of Music, School Teaching and Learning team, Campus Head of Teaching and Learning, and other Heads of Faculty, the Campus Head of Faculty – Music is responsible for aligning pedagogy, curriculum, assessment, and performance standards across both academic and ensemble pathways. They foster a vibrant and inclusive culture of music-making, champion student achievement and wellbeing, and ensure all students are supported to thrive in a dynamic and inspiring learning environment. Through collaborative leadership, high-impact teaching, and evidence-informed practice, this role contributes significantly to the success and evolution of the music program at Caulfield Grammar.

Key selection criteria

  • Tertiary qualifications in Education, with postgraduate qualifications in education, leadership, or music desirable.
  • Current Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) registration.
  • Minimum 5 years of demonstrated excellence in classroom Music teaching, including curriculum design, assessment, and student engagement from Years 7 to 12.
  • Significant leadership experience in a school-based music setting, including the planning and delivery of large ensemble programs, concerts, and co-curricular events.
  • Proven capacity to manage performance calendars, rehearsal schedules, staff timetables and event logistics in a large school music program.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor music staff, including instrumental tutors and ensemble directors, fostering collaboration, innovation, and curriculum alignment.
  • Experience in using data to monitor student progress, improve retention, and inform program planning, including ensemble auditions, lesson attendance, and curriculum outcomes.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a proven ability to build relationships with staff, students, parents, and key school stakeholders.
  • Commitment to high-impact teaching practice, professional growth, and embedding the principles of student wellbeing and inclusive education in music.
  • Alignment with Caulfield Grammar School’s values and a demonstrated commitment to supporting a diverse and vibrant school community.
  • Willingness to actively contribute to school life, including performances, assemblies, open days, community events, and other enrichment programs that involve the music department.
