145 Years of Boarding at CGS 2026 – Help us to celebrate in 2026!
Are you a boarder? In a display planned for the Heritage Gallery in 2026 on “145 years of Boarding”, we’d like to pin a map of the world on the wall and mark places where boarders came from as students and/or live now in 2025-2026.
In 1955, teacher Don Wirth, plotted a map of locations of the homes of boarders. He called it ‘Boarder – Towns’.
Please help us – Simply email archives@caulfieldgs.vic.edu.au and share a few comments on your memories of life as a boarder or a message of where you are living now and your career and attach a photo of yourself with an interesting background – are you living in Geelong or Inverloch or Hong Kong, Perth,  Germany or Queensland? Are you a family of generational boarders?

Growing the Shelford Collection:
From 2025 the care of the Shelford Girls’ Grammar School Archive collection comes under our school. There are many gaps in the collection. Can you help? Especially Shelford Speech Day or Speech Night programmes and copies of Quaerite magazine and other memorabilia. Please contact the Archives office. Email archives@caulfieldgs.vic.edu.au or ring the Archives office (03) 9524 6249.

Goodbye Term 4, 2025
As I write this article, all Year 12 students are in ‘swot vac’ and preparing for their final examinations and we wish them good luck.
Recently I came across an amusing poem penned by past student, George P Barton (1918-20) from the CGS School Magazine, December 1919. Whilst ‘chalk boards have been replaced with digital screens; the excitement of a long holiday remains ever-present. So, in this final e-newsletter, we say ‘adieu”, and best wishes for the forthcoming vacation!
“Good-bye School”
Good-bye, good-bye, to stupid pi,
And tedious conjugations,
Adieu! Adieu! We’ve waded through
Our last examinations!
Farewell! Farewell! To chalky smell,
of cube root and quadratics;
We’ll trade our books for running brooks,
And revel in aquatics.
Yes, au revoir to desks bon soir,
Deep scarred by our abuses,
Upon whose face we learned to trace
And square hypotenuses.
The board is clear and though I fear,
It will not make us merry.
We’ll start to learn when we return,
Again in February.
