Job Description

The Role   

The Theatre Manager will be responsible for the daily operations and maintenance of the theatre at our Caulfield Campus. The role will also co-ordinate venue bookings, managing the technical and resourcing side of events and performances for both internal and external groups. 

The Theatre Manager oversees a team of casual Theatre Technicians, Assistants and Ushers who support the operation of the venue, and works closely with the Production Manager and the Learning Area Leader – Theatre and Dance. 

Key Duties   

  • Lead, manage and co-ordinate a team of casual staff and subcontractors  
  • Maintain all technical equipment in the Performing Arts facilities and work to high levels of Occupational Health and Safety 
  • Maintenance, technical support and operational knowledge of equipment in the venue, including digital and analogue lighting, sound equipment and other systems in Performing Arts facilities. 
  • Co-ordinate events in the Performing Arts facilities including but not limited to School assemblies, productions, guest speakers, meetings, information sessions, rehearsals, classroom sessions and gallery exhibitions   
  • Manage bookings for events and performances based in Performing Arts facilities, ensuring that the needs of the school are prioritised 
  • Model and live the Caulfield Grammar School values and behaviours.  

Skills and Experience    

  • Ability to manage the day-to-day workflow in an intelligent and flexible way, allowing for unscheduled interruptions.  
  • Production and stage management, lighting and audio systems, rigging safety practices, venue and facilities management, team management, OH&S compliance and documentation  
  • High level of knowledge and skills in set up of audio, lighting, stage and other relevant stage management equipment.  
  • Ability to communicate clearly with stakeholders, make decisions, problem solve and resolve conflicts in a mature and professional manner 
  • Experience leading a team with excellent organisation, planning and time management 
  • Certificate IV Qualification in either the areas of staging or audio visual (Desirable)  
  • High Risk Work Qualifications in EWP and Dogging (Desirable) 
  • Hold a current or willing to obtain an Employment WWCC
