2021 Mentoring Circles – Interview with Raj Jayaweera (1997)

Are you interested in a career in music? Watch this interview with Raj Jayaweera (Class of 1997) who is a jazz musician (drummer) who has toured extensively around the world.
After graduating from the Wheelers Hill Campus, Rajiv continued his formal education at the Victorian College of the Arts where he gained a Bachelor of Music in Jazz and improvisation. In 2011, he moved to New York to study for a Masters’ degree in Jazz Performance. He was based in New York for ten years and performed extensively around the world with various groups.
He has received numerous grants from the Australia Council for the Arts and other organisations, and was a finalist for the Freedman Jazz Fellowship in 2013. Last year he released his debut album as a leader entitled ‘Pistils’ and relocated to south of Spain where he is currently based.
