Class of 1985 35-Year Reunion

Around 30 class members attended the 35-year reunion for the Class of 1985, held in the Archer Room at the Botanical Hotel in South Yarra on Friday 13 March. A number of those in attendance travelled from interstate, including Paul Chambers, Andrew Cox, Jeremy Morton, Tim Steen and Nigel McNay. Everyone enjoyed a relaxed evening catching up on current news and reminiscing about schooldays. Drinks and finger food were served. The Archer Room provided a perfect venue for such a gathering and the CGA looks forward to using the Botanical Hotel in the future for off-site reunions. The Class of 1985 was the last class to graduate from the School that included only males and only students from Caulfield Campus. One of the highlights of the 1985 school year was the School’s first win in the APS Bo...

2019 Boarders’ Reunion

On Friday 15 October, nearly 100 past boarding students and staff attended the Boarders’ Reunion at the Railway Hotel in South Melbourne. This was a big jump from previous years which had seen approximately half that number. A big thank you goes to Louise Bibby and all Morcom House Captains for spreading the word about the event amongst their peer years.      There was a broad range of ages represented with alumni from the 1950s all the way up to 2017. It was also lovely to see some generational families and siblings such as Brooke, Mal and Tim McCurdy, John and Stephen Rafferty, Luke and Michael Spinks, and Cam and Lachlan Dickie. This event is such an important one in the CGA calendar as boarding continues to be a huge part of CGS. In 2020 the School will host 45 girls and 45 boys ...

Boarders’ Reunion

The CGA is delighted to host a special Boarders’ Reunion on Friday 15 November 2019 from 6.30pm — 9pm at the Railway Hotel in South Melbourne. You will note that this year’s function is once again being held at a venue off-site from CGS. The CGA hopes that this will provide a relaxed atmosphere that will enable you to attend at minimal expense and for as long or short a time as you might feel comfortable. Whether you can only come for the first half hour or wish to arrive later the planning has been done with the aim of drawing as many as possible to share a drink and some finger food, and to catch up with faces from the past. Tickets are $25 per person and include finger food and a drink on arrival. Partners are most welcome to attend. Dress: Smart casual RSVP: 5pm Friday 8 November...

A Mysterious Suitcase

A couple of years ago, a water pipe burst in the roof of Morcom House causing damage to the ceiling. On the face of it, this was a fairly straightforward job of plumbing and plastering…but it uncovered a mystery. Found in the roof was a suitcase. Aside from being rather dirty and with corroded metalwork, it was a high quality case in reasonably good condition. It was also empty save for a piece of red ribbon fastened with drawing pins to the inside of the lid in the shape of the Star of David. On the outside of the lid was the name BICKERTON in black letters about five centimeters in height. In 1919, a young lad, Hugh Geoffrey Bickerton, was enrolled on his sixth birthday at Caulfield Grammar School to start the following year. He had been born in Brisbane at Eagle Junction on 12 Sep...
