CGFC Report – August 2018

The CGFC has been a hive of activity since the 2018 season commenced in April. We were able to re-sign all our coaching panel, whilst adding some additional expertise, which was important for the development and stability of the Club. This was particularly so, given the elevation of our senior men’s team back in to B grade and the introduction of a second women’s team. We were delighted that both our women’s and under 19 teams maintained their position in the Premier division in 2018. This provides a wonderful opportunity for us to showcase the talent we have across the Club to the broader CGFC community and prepare our players for further development. We were pleased that a number of our 2017 women’s team were able to go on to play in the VFLW in 2018 and that some of our under 19 team me...

Inaugural CGFCW Pride Match

Saturday 21 July 2018 marked the inaugural pride match for the Caulfield Grammarians Football Club Women’s (CGFCW) teams. The CGFC women’s seniors and reserves sides celebrated the round by donning a specially designed jumper featuring rainbow bands as well as rainbow socks. The day was a huge success, drawing a strong crowd to enjoy some good footy and even better homemade baked goods. With the ground freshly painted with rainbows, the women’s reserves side set the tone for the day and kept their finals hopes ablaze keeping Kew goalless in their 58 point win. With Montana White kicking 4 of 9 goals for the day in her best on ground performance. Shelley Gwynne, Darci Welsh, Kelly Cosgrave, Ruby Hong and Lily Rice were also stand outs for the ressies. Our senior side had their work cut out ...

New CGFC Co-Patron Announced

For the last 20 years, the Club has been benefited by the guidance of Stephen Newton, and in more recent times as Co-Patron, Liz Wilson. Since Liz’s passing at the start of last season, the Club has given a much consideration to who would be a candidate, someone who we could look to about our future, who shares our values and has a desire to see our football club be a place where women and men have equal opportunity. We are delighted to announce that the Principal of Caulfield Grammar School, Mr. Ashleigh Martin, has accepted our invitation to join with Stephen Newton as the Co-Patron of CGFC. This decision has the total support of Stephen, who is similarly delighted to have Ashleigh on board. For background: Ashleigh is the 10th Principal of the School, having commenced in this role in De...

CGFC Report – May 2018

Season 2018 will provide the opportunity for over 200 players to represent the Caulfield Grammarians’ Football Club and affiliated netball club in various competitions around metropolitan Melbourne. After two years of hard work, the effort paid off last September when the senior men’s team won promotion to Premier B Grade in the VAFA. This represents an exciting chance for us to showcase to the competition our collective talents. We are also fielding senior men’s seconds and thirds teams, two women’s teams (Premier Section), an Under 19 team (also in Premier Section) and four netball teams in various metropolitan competitions. To have this many teams on the field each weekend is an outstanding effort from all associated with the Club, which shows the strength of the playing group and of th...
