Rowing Report – June 2019

Coxed rowing quad out on the river

The Caulfield Grammarians Rowing Club is a wonderful collection of past Caulfield Grammar School students, staff, parents and friends of CGS who row for fun, fitness and competition.

Every Sunday morning, weather permitting, we row along the beautiful Yarra river, or Albert Park Lake.

Some of our members are taking their skills to the next level, with weekly morning coaching sessions — yes, at 6.00 am on the Yarra!

We also compete at masters rowing regattas, and in the past six months we have competed in Rutherglen, Essendon, Carrum, Geelong, Ballarat, Albert Park and Nagambie.

One hardy crew even made it to Perth to compete in the National Rowing Championships in May.

In March we were proud to join The Pennefather Club, in conjunction with the Caulfield Grammar School Boat Club, to celebrate more than sixty years of rowing at Caulfield Grammar School. It was a brilliant celebration of the school’s rowing history.

A highlight of the season was the CGA honouring Mike Dakic with the Don Wirth Award for over 10 years’ service to CGRC rowing. Mike was a founding member of the CGRC. He learnt to row at the Club and went on to become the Male Masters Rower of the Year in 2014 and 2015. Mike’s legacy is a strong, united, friendly, energetic, and enthusiastic Club which is proud of its role as ambassadors for the Caulfield Grammar name.
