A virtual reunion for members of the Classes of 1975 and 1980 was held via Zoom on Friday 31 July. Around 20 members of the two classes joined the reunion.
As has been the case throughout the COVID-19 restrictions, the virtual reunion format provided the opportunity for Grammarians living interstate and overseas to attend. Phil Effick (1980) joined from the UK and Michael Stoddart (1975) joined from Thailand. A number of others joined from outside Melbourne, including some from interstate.
After a brief welcome to the whole group from CGA Executive Director Linda Sprott, the members of each class were placed in break-out groups. Over the next hour or so there was an opportunity for everyone attending to tell their own story about post-school life and to reminisce about school days. Some participants were able to renew acquaintances for the first time since leaving school.
When the Classes of 1975 and 1980 joined together again, a number of attendees were keen to continue chatting and, for some, the reunion continued for a further 30 minutes beyond the scheduled conclusion time.
Again, the overall response to the virtual reunion was very positive, although all in attendance hoped that there will be an opportunity for a face-to-face get-together in 2021.
In the meantime we encourage the Classes of 1975 and 1980 to join their respective Facebook Groups to stay in touch with their peers:
