CGFC Report – August 2021

CGFC Women's Team

What another crazy year 2021 has turned out to be. At present the current lockdown has meant the VAFA has concluded all regular season competition, with just under two thirds of the games played.

The disruption to the season has been far from ideal, however our young women and men, along with our wonderful coaches and support staff, have handled it all largely in their stride. This is best demonstrated by 4 out of our 6 sides qualifying for finals in their Premier competitions. This is simply an outstanding achievement and we as a club are so proud to have made such a mark in our return to A Grade in both men’s and women’s competitions.

Our women’s senior side finished 3rd and were successful in the 1st Semi Final against West Brunswick, so are now waiting for the opportunity to tackle SKOBS in the preliminary final and a chance to play for the premiership. Our senior and reserves men’s teams finished 4th and 3rd respectively and both are looking forward the 1st Semi Finals against Old Brighton and Old Melburnians.

Finally our stand out team in the regular season, the Under 19s, won the minor premiership and are set to host Old Xaverians in the 2nd Semi Final. All four of finals bound teams have created history at our club. Regardless of whether we get to play these finals, 2021 has seen Caulfield Grammarians return as a serious player in the top flights of the VAFA.

Unfortunately the disruption has also meant many of our events scheduled for 2021 have had to be postponed until 2022, including the 1970 A Grade 50 year reunion and our Centenary Celebration Event. As a club we are 100% committed to hosting all reunions and the centenary event in 2022. Both these events were close to selling out and this is an example of the amazing support we have received from the wider community in 2021.

Our membership levels have reached new highs and the attendance at the luncheons we could hold were fantastic, none more so than the Round 5 home win against Old Xavier. So while we wait to see whether finals can be played, we take this opportunity to say thank you to all our community and corporate partners, our wonderful supporters and of course our amazing staff.

Go Fields!
