Doing good in the world – Denis Hyland

When Denis Hyland started in prep at Shaw House in 1954 (finishing in 1965) it was the beginning of a 66 year connection with Caulfield Grammar School that has continued to this day. Denis and his older brother Peter were enrolled at Caulfield Grammar together. The family was advised by their doctor that Peter, born with cerebral palsy and a mild intellectual disability, would receive more care and empathy at Caulfield Grammar than at a government school. While there were very few boys with a disability at the School at the time, the family was grateful the Headmaster Frank Archer was willing to take Peter on, and to the School for providing a supportive and caring environment for both boys over many years. Peter is still going strong at 74, and is now living in aged care and the brothers ...

Foundation Giving 2020 Campaign

We are extremely grateful to all who contributed to our Foundation Giving 2020 campaign, and are delighted with the result we have achieved with more than $700,000 raised through this campaign. These funds, together with the commitment of $1m from the Foundation, will help the School to support CGS families who are experiencing financial hardship and will ensure the continued growth of our Foundation Scholarship program. Our Foundation Scholarship program provides students from diverse backgrounds, including, regional and rural, Indigenous and refugee families, with the opportunity of a Caulfield Grammar School education. This year has been one that could not be foreseen or imagined and the challenges it has presented have been vast and complex. We have been overwhelmed by the generosity o...

A gift that will last a lifetime

Jessica Cinar, our 2018 WH Co-captain, is one of thirteen Grammarians working as tutors to support our Foundation Scholarship students. These students represent great diversity, including Indigenous students and refugee families from Afghanistan, Syria and Sri Lanka. The Grammarians themselves also represent wonderful diversity coming from European, Armenian, Chinese, British and Indigenous backgrounds. We are incredibly proud that over the last two years our Foundation Scholarship program has grown, and we now have sixteen Foundation Scholarship recipients who are benefiting from a Caulfield Grammar School education. This has been made possible due entirely to the generous support of our wonderful Foundation donors. These boys and girls and their families are all very appreciative of the ...

1881 Bequest Society

Your Lasting Impact Caulfield Grammar School is what it is today due to the many people who have given generously of their time, ideas and energy, and have provided their philanthropic support through donations and bequests since the school was first opened in 1881. It is therefore fitting that the School and the Foundation have jointly established the 1881 Bequest Society to recognise the importance of bequests in securing our School’s future. The 1881 Bequest Society is named in honour of the men and women who have believed in, and contributed to, Caulfield Grammar since its inception. A bequest is a lasting way of investing in the School and ensuring that individuals who make a bequest remain a vital part of its future. One such bequestor is Lindsay Cuming AM, whose family gave the land...

Transformational Giving Day

Thank you for your incredible support of our inaugural Community Giving Day. With the generosity of our donor matchers (as listed below), more than 630 donors and 40 volunteers, we were delighted to raise more than $520,000 to fund our needs-based Foundation Scholarships. This is an amazing result, far exceeding our expectations. I am extremely proud to be working in a community that supported this wonderful initiative so enthusiastically. It was inspiring to see and hear of donors ranging from current students, parents, staff and suppliers to Grammarians aged from 16 to 90 years getting behind the Giving Day. Our volunteers, including current students, staff, and past and current parents, did a wonderful job of making calls and creating fantastic momentum on the day. We are thrilled that ...
