On Friday 15 October, nearly 100 past boarding students and staff attended the Boarders’ Reunion at the Railway Hotel in South Melbourne. This was a big jump from previous years which had seen approximately half that number.
A big thank you goes to Louise Bibby and all Morcom House Captains for spreading the word about the event amongst their peer years.
There was a broad range of ages represented with alumni from the 1950s all the way up to 2017. It was also lovely to see some generational families and siblings such as Brooke, Mal and Tim McCurdy, John and Stephen Rafferty, Luke and Michael Spinks, and Cam and Lachlan Dickie.
This event is such an important one in the CGA calendar as boarding continues to be a huge part of CGS. In 2020 the School will host 45 girls and 45 boys in Morcom House – this is full capacity given the recent renovations to boys and girls boarding houses over the past three years.
The strong attendance at the reunion is testament to the bonds forged with the School and with those who were fellow boarders living in the residential community. It makes us very aware of what the diversity of boarding students does for the School and what the School does to their lives. It truly is a life changing experience.
